The prerequisites for monitoring ISCBind with Netdata are to have ISCBind and Netdata installed on your system.
Netdata auto discovers hundreds of services, and for those it doesn’t turning on manual discovery is a one line configuration. For more information on configuring Netdata for ISCBind monitoring please read the collector documentation.
You should now see the ISCBind section on the Overview tab in Netdata Cloud already populated with charts about all the metrics you care about.
Netdata has a public demo space (no login required) where you can explore different monitoring use-cases and get a feel for Netdata.

ISC Bind is a DNS server software that provides metrics to measure the performance of a domain name system. The name server statistics are one of the metrics provided by ISC Bind and can be used to measure the performance of a DNS server.
The name server statistics provide a breakdown of the number of requests, responses, successes, authorized answers, non-authorized answers, non-existent RR sets, failures, non-existent domains, recursions, duplicates, and rejections that the DNS server handles.
Monitoring the name server statistics can help prevent or diagnose issues related to DNS server performance, such as slow response times, high request rates, or incorrect responses. For example, if the number of duplicate requests is high, this could indicate problems with DNS caching or the server’s ability to handle requests. If the number of rejections is high, this could indicate the server is not responding correctly to requests or is overloaded.
Incoming Queries is another metric provided by ISC Bind to measure the performance of a DNS server. This metric tracks the number of incoming DNS queries that the server receives from clients.
Monitoring this metric can help detect and prevent issues related to DNS server performance, such as slow response times, high request rates, or incorrect responses. For example, if the number of incoming queries is high, this could indicate the server is overloaded or not responding correctly to requests.
Outgoing Queries is another metric provided by ISC Bind to measure the performance of a DNS server. This metric tracks the number of outgoing DNS queries that the server sends to other DNS servers.
Monitoring this metric can help detect and prevent issues related to DNS server performance, such as slow response times or incorrect responses. For example, if the number of outgoing queries is high, this could indicate the server is making too many requests to other DNS servers or is not responding correctly to requests.
Named Stats Size is another metric provided by ISC Bind to measure the performance of a DNS server. This metric tracks the amount of memory being used by the DNS server to store name server statistics.
Monitoring this metric can help detect and prevent memory related issues with the DNS server, such as slowness or instability. For example, if the amount of memory being used is too high, this could indicate the server is not clearing out old statistics or is not responding correctly to requests.
